“Blood. Sometimes it sets my teeth on edge,

other times it helps me control the chaos.”

–Dexter Morgan

Arianna

Freezing cold.

I don’t like the way the bitter wind hits my skin, making the sweater I’m wearing feel utterly without purpose. I shouldn’t have snuck off without a coat. These thin leggings aren’t exactly doing me any favors either. Still, I keep walking toward the hill as the pond calls my name.

Lorenzo has always loved his garden. It’s partially why he bought this mansion. But since I came here for the first time, the pond has been my love. It’s so peaceful and secluded. Nothing can go wrong here, not at my pond.

So why do I feel an eeriness as I approach the top of my hill? Why do I feel like I’m being watched? The wind picks up and I shudder, my teeth chattering as I consider turning back. I hate holiday parties with no escape. My pond is my escape.

Looking behind me, I see no one. Sure, the air is foggy and frosty but no shadows lurk behind me. Everything feels wrong. So wrong, and that’s when the wind gets me. It pushes me down the hill and to my doom.

Blood. So much crimson blood pouring out of my head, coating my hair in sticky goo. Screams, blood curdling screams pour out of me. I’m alone. I’m going to die. No one will find me.

No one loves me enough to find me right?

Surely no one noticed I’m gone.

I’m too good at disappearing.

Gio, maybe Gio will find me. He has to know I love him. I’m going to die without him. He’ll never know my love. He deserves my love.

So much blood.

My stomach turns and my body protests the idea of death. I don’t want to die.

Help.

Someone please… help.

The sun wakes me up, pulling me out of my nightmare. The hot, brutal sun, peeking through cracks in the tent. I'm not sure if I’m sweating from the nightmare or the temperature of the tent. The cool night air has disappeared and turned into warm rays of light jumping off of my skin.

Birds are chirping outside of the tent quietly while I get up to look for my phone. The chocolate covered strawberries are gone, the champagne is too. And there’s a pile of clothes folded on Luca’s pillow along with a note. I quickly get dressed, not wanting to be caught completely naked in this tent by Caterina or Vito.

That would be an embarrassment fit for centuries, I would not recover.

He gave me a pair of white panties, ripped jeans, and a pink cropped top that I don’t need to wear a bra with from my bag and a pair of sandals from Katherine’s closet. I finally let myself read his note after I’m dressed and ready to get out of the humid tent.

“Don’t even think about cleaning up anything. Caterina brought another staff member to help. You get dressed and relax. I’ll be home for dinner tonight. Text me, I like it when you do that.
